Every other year my family runs off to the mountains for Christmas, to a candy-cane-lane of log cabins deep within the woods. It’s a tradition that began ten years ago and one that I have come to completely adore. I used to think that Christmas needed to be spent at home but really, as long as you’re with family, it doesn’t matter where you go. Christmas lives within. So why not travel? Why not explore, get out, and share the experience with your closest family and bestest of friends?
This year our cabins were located at The Idyllwild Inn which are set on five wooded acres in the San Jacinto Mountains. These historic, family-run cabins have been in operation since 1904. Josh and Emily White, 4th generation owners, currently run the Inn with their kids and treat every guest as if they are part of the family. The cabins come complete with fireplaces, full kitchens, and huge decks. Also included, free WiFi so although it feels rustic and rural, I’m still able to blog right from the cozy comfort of my room!… Boom.
So currently, I’m lying here awake, reflective and child-like, listening to the crackle of our fire. My dogs at my side. Husband fast asleep and the scent of home-made cookies fills the air. Our presents are wrapped, stockings stuffed and my spirit is full. It doesn’t get any better than this, really. I’m in a state of complete awesome sauce.
Here’s to everyone out there, wherever you may be this Christmas. Here’s to family, friends, new places, unconditional love, the pursuit of happiness and good ol’ father Christmas. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
